Electronic Portable Air Conditioner

how to convert a vertical window air conditioner to a horizontal window?

i bought a air conditioner for a window that slides up an down. But , my window slides fron side to side. I need some ideas to make this work. I bought a bracket to mount the conditioner on ,but I need something to hold it in from the top. The window needs to be able to be used if I dont want to use the air con. I am going to make a screen that goes on top of the unit, an then put some plexie glass inside the window frame, when using the unit. So the question is how do I support the unit from side to side an the top. Thanks for any input

  1. If you mount the support brkt(s) so there is a slight down-tilt for water to drain away I would maybe use one of the light weight nylon ratchet straps that are normally used to strap things to a cars roof carrier. Gravity will certainly hold the unit to the brkt and if you snug up the strap around the unit & brkt the unit can't go anywhere. I think you might have more trouble making this a usable window. It might be easier to just seal the window with your plexi and maybe use the fan only on the unit to draw air in from outside.
  2. Will NOT work, the freon won't work properly. You either need to put a small fan in there to exhaust the heat or spend big money for one that fits that window, they sell them. Or if possible cut a hole in the wall and install it permanently.
