how to convert a vertical window air conditioner to a horizontal window?
i bought a air conditioner for a window that slides up an down. But , my window slides fron side to side. I need some ideas to make this work. I bought a bracket to mount the conditioner on ,but I need something to hold it in from the top. The window needs to be able to be used if I dont want to use the air con. I am going to make a screen that goes on top of the unit, an then put some plexie glass inside the window frame, when using the unit. So the question is how do I support the unit from side to side an the top. Thanks for any input

- If you mount the support brkt(s) so there is a slight down-tilt for water to drain away I would maybe use one of the light weight nylon ratchet straps that are normally used to strap things to a cars roof carrier. Gravity will certainly hold the unit to the brkt and if you snug up the strap around the unit & brkt the unit can't go anywhere. I think you might have more trouble making this a usable window. It might be easier to just seal the window with your plexi and maybe use the fan only on the unit to draw air in from outside.
- Will NOT work, the freon won't work properly. You either need to put a small fan in there to exhaust the heat or spend big money for one that fits that window, they sell them. Or if possible cut a hole in the wall and install it permanently.
