Electronic Portable Air Conditioner

can a window air conditioner fit directly into a wall, or are they separate types of air conditioners?

1. It looks like it would be no problem. You may need to improvise a bracket to attach it to the wall, but I've done this a couple of times successfully.
2. Yes it can fit into a section of wall, its just that most people are renting and want to take it with them when they leave & the window is a good way for this purpose. It will have to be done professionally by air con installers (not electricians) if you can do the cut out bit urself it will save some cash but usually costs about $600 aussie dollars to install. sometimes dearer than the actual aircon. They just need a place for the hot air to blow out the back so it has to go right through. Good luck.
3. There is a difference. Window AC units have vents in the sides. Thru the wall units are solid on the sides because you slide them into a sleeve when you install it. Its a rectangle metal housing that the unit slides in to.
4. If you can cut a hole to fit the air conditioner with out interfering with anything, you should be alright. You understand the unit has to be on a outside wall, to work properly.
5. I would use one that slides out of it's case. That will permit servicing the unit in the future. Units that dont slide out require the unit to be removed to service. If it has louvers on the sides don't cover them, make sure they are all the way on the outside as these allow air from the outside fan to circulate air over the outdoor coil.
