What causes a window air conditioner to freeze up in the front where you can see ice on it?

What causes a window air conditioner to freeze up in the front where you can see ice on it? My husband sprayed water in the front of the a/c to clean it. He said that it was freezing up before he cleaned it with water that is why he cleaned it. What do you think? How can we get it to stop freezing up? Thanks in advance for your answers.

2. You are either trying to cool too much of an area for the air conditioner or the filter needs cleaned/replaced. To clean the filter, use a vacuum with a hose attachment.
3. Your answer is you do not have enough rear tilt on the ac.The humidity taken out by the ac is building up in the front and freezing on the evaporator. Tilt it back a little so the water will drip out.
4. suggest to insure that it is tilted towards the outside a bit,in order to drain the condensation properly, and make sure the filter is not dirty ,it sometimes requires good air movement to prevent freezing up.
