Electronic Portable Air Conditioner

What's your opinion on portable air conditioners?

I have been told by some people that portable air conditioners can be as efficient as in-window units, and they do just as good of a job. Others say that they cost almost twice as much to run, and barely cool the room that they are in. What's your opinion/experiences, let me know.

1. personally i wouldn't spend the money for one. i would simply get a normal air conditioner.
2. air conditioners blow out hot air out the back so unless you vent that hot air out your defeating the purpose of cooling efficiently window units or central air is where it's at
