Portable air conditioner?
I have central air conditioning in my home, but this particular bedroom seems to have a lot of trouble cooling down. I was looking at portable air conditioners, but I very much dislike that unsightly hose that has to stick out the window, especially in the area I live in. Does anyone know of a cooling system that can comfortably cool a roughly 10x12 room? I am willing to spend up to $500. Thanks for the help.

- http://www.atrendyhome.com/durebofan.html You might want to try a booster vent fan. It would be considerably cheaper than a portable A/C (about$70). These units divert more cool air flow from a central unit to a particular room.
- You have several options. First of all the problem you are facing is a balancing problem with the central AC system. If the system is large enough but distributed poorly you can turn down the areas that have enough cool air an force more air to the warmer room. You will have to find dampers either at the diffusers or in the lines. The booster fan may do this but it is best used where the AC is strong enough but the system can't force the air through a pipe that is too long or too narrow. The cheapest units are going to be portable units and I have made vents for them that go through walls instead of windows. It does take a bit of work but it is possible.
