Electronic Portable Air Conditioner

Can a portable air conditioning unit be vented into a loft space?

Hi I am wondering if someone can help me with this question re. portable Air conditioning units. What I am talking about here is a small portable unit, the type which sits in your room, but you have a hose ( similar to a tumble dryer hose) which comes out of the back of it. It requires to be vented outside the room ( obviously) and normally I just stick the hose out of our bedroom window. We live in the UK and only really need to have the a/c unit running for 3 or 4 hours at a time, and never more than on 21 days of the year. I was thinking about whether it would be OK to route this hose into our loft space, which would be much more convenient for us. The loft is well ventilated- there are vents which go out under the eaves. I believe all that comes out of this hose is hot, dry air.( the condensed water is collected in the a/c unit). Has anyone had experience of doing this, or can comment on this idea? - I'd be interested in any advice. Thanks in advance

  1. Can a portable air conditioning unit be vented into a loft space? portable portable portable ! All you need to do is work out the BTU (British thermal units) That the loft area is likely to produce then see if he PORTABLE unit will be powerful enough to cover the space.
  2. Yes, if it is well ventilated, you can run the exhaust into the loft space.
  3. yes you can vent it there, all you are trying to do is get the hot air out of the area your cooling and if the loft is vented then it will be the same as the window just a round about way of getting it there but serves the same purpose
  4. bad idea, the last thing you want to do is add more heat and moisture into your loft
