How to install a window air conditioner in a window that slides side to side.?

I am going to need a window air conditioner this year. But the new apartments I am living in have windows that slide side to side, not up and down. My question is, how do I install a window air conditioner in this kind of window? It was so much easier in my last apartments because I could just pull the window down on it and slide out the attachments and me done.

1. You will need to buy a A/C unit that is made for that type of window.... they cost a little more money....
2. You still place the unit in the window slid it as far closed as possible You can then cut a piece of plywood to fill the gap

5. Try one of the new floor standing units. They're on wheels and you can move it from room to room, plus it doesn't matter what kind of window you vent it out of.
