I need help with air-conditioning?
I live in a one-bedroom apartment. It's too hot and I wanted to get a portable air-conditioner but all of them has to have an exhaust and I'm not really allowed to punch holes in these walls. Can I buy one without the exhaust pipes or whatever you those things? I just want a damn cool place for the summer.

- Take a look at these.
- No window?
- First of all, never get those air coolers that you fill with ice or water, those things are jokes. Sorry, but all good quality air-conditioners use freon to cool the room, so you'll need an exhaust. Do you have an available window? Just pipe the exhaust tube to that and you're done!
- It'll never work without the hot air exhaust being directed out the window or thru the wall, floor or ceiling to another place. If there is a hung ceiling, you might be able to vent the exhaust above the ceiling tiles, but eventually you'll be heating the same room that you're trying to cool. My experience with some portable a/c' s is that they cool great, but the longer the exhaust duct is, the more it acts as a radiator to increase the heat in the room. Providing that you can vent it properly, keep the exhaust duct short, make sure your fuse box can handle the extra amps and be prepared to keep emptying the condensate pan. Talk to the superintendent or the owner. If you're willing to spent the money for the a/c, the least they can do is help you to get it installed properly.
