Electronic Portable Air Conditioner

Anyone here own portable air conditioning?

I just want to know if they are really noisy, I have been looking online and some websites give you decibel levels but I have no idea really what's the difference between 40 or 50 decibels. Are they really noisy? I'm considering getting a small one.. thank you. Don't have to own one, has anyone here been in a room with a portable AC? Was it noisy or OK? My place has central AC, but my room has electronics like receiver, and computer and will have a flat panel tv so it can get warm with all of them one... so the portable AC would not work all alone in cooling Well, I have a lot of electronics plus a lot of lighting so it can get rather warm, and I'm a cold person (meaning I always want it cooler than the average person), that's why I'm thinking of one

1. i havent found window units to not be that noisy its like having a box fan on medium about the same level of noise electronics dont emmit enough heat to raise the temp of the room that much of course its good to try to keep electronics cool though you can just put a fan to circulate the air in the room as well
2. yea they are noisy. i have an old one and it sounds like your in a wind tunnel. however, if your looking into a newer one, get a decent sided one over 10000 btu's. that way you can make it frigid or not. my experience with the smaller ones is they just don't seem to get cold enough. its worth it if you don't want to sit in your room and sweat. they can run up the bill a lot more tho. ouch. make sure the window around it is sealed well or it will be a lot of wasted energy. good luck
