Portable Air Conditioners Knowledge Base
Portable Air Conditioners - Do they really work? We have a really small apartment (900 sq ft) and it faces south/west (maximum sun exposure). The building does not have air conditioning and the windows are not desigend to support standard window mounted air conditioners. We are nervous to buy a portable air conditioner. I read consumer reports and they gave portable air conditioners very poor ratings. Have you tried them and do they work? If you have had a positive experience, which one would you recommend?
What's your opinion on portable air conditioners? I have been told by some people that portable air conditioners can be as efficient as in-window units, and they do just as good of a job. Others say that they cost almost twice as much to run, and barely cool the room that they are in. What's your opinion/experiences, let me know.
portable air conditioners how much does it cost to run them? Hi there , does anyone own one of those portable air conditioners on wheels, the ones with a hose attached to an open window? im only looking for the ones that cool only, how much do they cost to run here in Sydney per hour ? lets say for a 1000wt unit, thank you all .
Do portable air conditioners use a lot of electricity? I have a portable air conditioner in my studio apartment. It works, but just barely. My electricity is included in my rent, so I don't know how much the electric bill is, but my landlord told me to keep the air conditioner off during the day when I am not home. But if I do that, when I get home, I can crank it all the way up, and my apartment doesn't get cool until about 2am. I thought about buying another one of the units, thinking maybe 2 won't have to work so hard to cool the place down as one does. I am just trying to find the most efficient way to stay cool. It's hot here in the desert this time of year!
Do portable air conditioners really work? I live in Sacramento, CA, where the temperature often reaches 95°+ in May, and continues to rise to upwards of 105° (and as high as 114°) until September. Would a portable air conditioner be appropriate for the climate here? Would it keep my dog and child cool enough in the summer months? A standard a/c will not fit in my window, so if I got one, my landlord would have to cut a hole in the wall to mount it, so when I moved out, I'd be forfeiting it!
Ok to run 2 portable air conditioners at the same time? I have a portable air conditioner that came with my apartment. Unfortunately even if I left it on 24/7/365 on high, it couldn't keep up with the heat, it's just not big enough. I was thinking about getting another one, as well, but was wondering if that would be practical. Would 2 of those things running at the same time use too much electricity or blow the circuits?
do portable air conditioners have to be connected to windows? I'm thinking about getting a portable air conditioner because my landlord won't let me put a window unit in the new windows. I see they have air hoses with "window attachment kits" or whatever. Do you have to screw these on or take the screen off to put these on? I can't do anything to alter the windows....
question on portable air conditioners? do you have to use the widow exhaust hose when using a portable air conditioner. i see so many of them with an "evaportation" component so you don't have to empty the water container.
Question in regards to portable air conditioners? I've never had a portable a/c & I'm interested in purchasing 1 for my bedroom this summer. Is there any installation required for it or can I just plug it in & feel the cool air? Will I need to have it close 2 an open window for air to flow out? Do they usually come with a compartment that catches the water? Also, any suggestions on great brands to look into would be nice. Thanks!
Which portable air conditioners do not exchange air with the room? strictly circulate and cool it? If one is smoking a cigarette, and doesnt want to disturb the roommate, which portable air conditioner will be perfect? looking for one that will not exchange air in the room, and keep the dual hoses strictly for cooling the condensor. which brands do so? if anyone has one, do a ?smoke test" for me, blow into the front vents, and see if any smoke goes through to the two hoses on the back somehow. lots do so wondering which are actually seperate...
Portable air conditioners - brands and hose? Hi, I am thinking of getting a portable air conditioner for the bedroom. Can anyone recommend a good brand that will keep me cool? Also, someone mentioned something about a hose to let the hot air out. How does that work? I have like a net on my window, can i still use a portable AC? Thanks a lot!
Are there any portable air conditioners that work well? I recently moved into an apartment with all casement windows that crank open. I need an ac and was considering a portable one but have heard so many negative things about them. Does anyone have any personal experience and can anyone recommend good portable ac that worked for them? THANKYOU!!
do portable air conditioners work? We heard some lady go in side ofa shop taking make her air conditioner because it didn't work, well is it worth buying one and what kind, and if so how small does the room have to be to work? please anyone who has one give me what they know.
Do portable air conditioners work well? I live in darwin and i really need a portable air con for my room. my room is pretty dam small. do they cool the room down to about 18 degress? are they as good as the split air cons. and are they easy to set up (do u just plug it in and it works?)
Portable air conditioners? Has anyone here used one of those portable air conditioners that can be moved from room to room? I see them advertised that the only installation is putting a hose through a window. I was wondering if these machines really work the way the advertiser say.
I need some help with portable air conditioners? I a portable AC a few years ago, it was the one where you put the hose in the window. But after a few summers it stopped working properly. So I was wondering is there a way that you can use the kind that comes with the hose, but not use the hose? I want the same effect as I would with the hose, but I can't use the bracket and screws to hold the window down on my window. Thanks
Portable Air Conditioners without hoses? I've seen portable air conditioners that don't need a hose for the hot air outlet. Are they a waste of time? Surely they must blow the hot air into the room too.
Do ALL portable air conditioners have a hose that must be put out a window? If that is the case; that you have to put a hose out the window; how do you do it? Do you have to cut a hole out of your screen to stick the hose out? Then you always have a hole in a perfectly good screen. Or, you have to open your window a crack to stick the hose out & anything can fly in. Do these portables all come with hoses? Also, do they drip water on your floor? Thanks everyone !! Linda
ARE PORTABLE air conditioners? any good are they worth the extra price where do they vent the hot air to??? my window model has hot air blowing out the back end where does this go with a portable
Should I get a portable air conditioner? I'm on the 2nd floor of a private house that allows window air conditioners. However, I'm considering purchasing a portable air conditioner so that I can use it in the kitchen which is parallel to my room. My room is about 200 square feet. Does anyone know how beneficial they are and where I can get one at the best price possible?
Help with portable air conditioners? I am thinking about getting a portable air conditioner for my bedroom. I was originally going to get just a window one installed but I am probably moving out soon so portable would be better. I need to know what to look for, if any one can recommend a great brand and where I could buy one in Brisbane, Australia. Thanks
Does anyone have any knowledge about portable air conditioners? I am thinking about purchasing two portable air conditioners. My condominium is 960 square feet, so each level is about 415 square foot. This is minus the stair case. I would like one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs. I would like to eventually do away with central a/c. I live in Mesa, Az. where temperatures in the summer can reach 112 and higher. Does anyone have any experience with portable a/c's? The cost, the reliability, any information will help. Also, as far as the operating cost on the electric bill. Central air is very expensive and can run over $200/mos if not more in Az.
How do I install a portable air conditioner in a door opening? Hi there, I have bought a portable air conditioner that has a window kit (am renting, so can't cut holes in walls etc). The problem I have is that the only "window" in my bedroom is actually two doors. I can keep one closed and open one, but don't have any idea how to seal off the opening to stop hot air entering. Would LOVE some advise.
