Electronic Portable Air Conditioner

Small Portable Air Conditioners Knowledge Base

Small Portable Air Conditioner? I need a small air conditioner...I cant buy one of those window mounted A/C units because it won't work with the type of windows I have. I've been looking at portable air conditioners, but they are pretty expensive ($300+)...i only need something small..its just to cool off a tiny room. Any ideas?
Slim and very small portable air conditioner? What is the smallest portable air conditioner on the market? I have found a Mistral one, but is there another brand I can look at? It is to cool one room in my home office. I already have an evaporative cooler which is not effective enough, but I don't need a wall mounted split system. I was trying to find something slim and small. I live in Australia, so we may be limited on brands here.
What is the SMALLEST Portable Air Conditioner (not swamp/evaporative)? Hey guys, I'm looking for a new PORTABLE air conditioner due to a heat leak that cannot be fixed, its NOT a wall mount air conditioner... My question is, what is the smallest portable air conditioner on the market? I tried browsing the web and could not find much, I'm possibly not looking in the right direction, so if you fellow Yahoo folks could lend a helping hand and answer this wonderful question, that would be great!
Can I use two small air conditioners in the same room, to replace one large one? We had the four windows in our dining room, which connects with the living room (no door in between to close and 9 ft. ceilings), replaced. The new windows are not wide enough to accommodate the large air conditioner that we had used previously (24,500 BTU) to cool both rooms. The living room windows are French, so it would be difficult to find an air conditioner to fit them, as well as we would prefer not putting a window air conditioner in the front of the house. I thought rather than use a portable air conditioner, we could put two small air conditioners (12,000 BTU each) in two of the dining room windows to cool both the living room and dining room. What are the implications of doing this?
Portable Air Conditioners - Do they really work? We have a really small apartment (900 sq ft) and it faces south/west (maximum sun exposure). The building does not have air conditioning and the windows are not desigend to support standard window mounted air conditioners. We are nervous to buy a portable air conditioner. I read consumer reports and they gave portable air conditioners very poor ratings. Have you tried them and do they work? If you have had a positive experience, which one would you recommend?

What are the portable air conditioners like? Are they any good? I know that the portable evaporative air conditioners are not any good. I have been looking at a 2.5 kw aircon for our house. Our house is quite small so it should work okay. Can you tell me anything about them? Or recommend any good brands? thanks
do portable air conditioners work? We heard some lady go in side ofa shop taking make her air conditioner because it didn't work, well is it worth buying one and what kind, and if so how small does the room have to be to work? please anyone who has one give me what they know.
Do portable air conditioners work well? I live in darwin and i really need a portable air con for my room. my room is pretty dam small. do they cool the room down to about 18 degress? are they as good as the split air cons. and are they easy to set up (do u just plug it in and it works?)
My small room is 121 sq ft with a height of 10 ft, would a portable air conditioner with 9000btu/h sufficient? It adds to a total of 1210 cubic feet. I heard that portable A/C actually perform slightly less powerful compare to standard A/C having an equivalent BTU/h. Thanks in advance.
Most energy efficient, personal air conditioner for a small bedroom that I can buy for a reasonable price? I can't sleep in the summer heat andI need a small, portable air conditioner for my bedroom for the summer but don't know which one to buy as there are quite a few. Energy efficiency is a big factor as well as it's effectiveness. Suggestions would be appreciated, thank you ! Also, besides little personal fans, is there anything innovative and new out there to use/wear for the outside heat that I may not have heard about yet? It's so hard to breathe in the outside heat but I can't be indoors the entire day.
Will my portable Air conditioner 12000 BTU be damaged if I use it in a small room like 130 Square feet? I'm using the Amcor ALD12000E for rooms up to 400 Square feet, but right now I have it in a 130 square feet room which is pretty small... I read on some websites that it's not good for the AC.. is this true? Will my portable AC be damaged if I use it in smaller rooms?
where can i find an air conditioner that fits in a small basement window? is there any place online that i can find an air conditioner that fits in the small, half-sized basement windows? or do i have to get a portable air conditioner? thanks in advance..
Is there a portable air conditioner that does not require draining of liquid condensate? I live in Southern California on the second floor of an apartment complex. There is one wall mounted AC in the living room, but it doesn't even begin to reach my room when turned on full blast. I need to get a portable ac for my bedroom (relatively small in size) since the window configuration does not allow a traditional window mounted unit. Of all the ones I've looked into, the only fault customers have consistantly complained about is that a tray of some sort needs to be placed under the air conditioner to collect the water removed from the air, and it tends to spill all over the floor when trying to drain. Is there a model that would allow the draining of the water through a tube connected to the window in small amounts (I don't want to rain down buckets of water on people walking down below), or maybe even an innovative new design that bypasses the need to collect and empty condensate all together? Thanks :D
What is the lifespan of a portable air conditioner that runs constantly during the daytime? By portable air conditioner I mean one that has a hose attached to the window for exhaust. It runs almost everyday all day between July and September, but is turned off at night. How long will it last? The brand is Haier. It's a 7000 btu unit used to cool a small bedroom.
Where can I find a good, cheap, portable? air conditioner for my apartment? I live in an apartment that has ONE small air conditioner unit in the living room. It does a nice job at keeping the living room cool, but not the rest of the apartment. My room, for example, is currently 93 degrees. I have a ton of fans, but they just blow around hot air. I need some type of an air conditioner or unit that I can put in my room (or the LARGE window in my room) in order to cool this place down! I am a college student, so money and spending as little as possible would be good.
How do I properly vent a portable air conditioner in the attic? Hi there: I have a small work room up in attic that is insulated, wired, and completely sealed from the rest of my attic. I bought a portable air conditioner. There are no windows. Should I exhaust the a/c into the rest of the attic or vent it through the roof? Also, what should I use for an intake to bring in fresh air from the outside....just a second vent with a good screen and a fan to draw air in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Can I use a portable air conditioner in a room without a window? I want to use a portable air conditioner in my bedroom, but there is no window, and I can't cut a small hole in the wall since the apartment is rented. Please answer me ASAP
Alternative to portable air conditioner - little fridge!? The portable air conditioners have a pipe that needs to be out a window to expel the hot air. I don't have a suitable window. Would another idea be to get a small fridge and leave the door open all the time? This way cold air without much heat produced.
Portable air conditioner/air cooler? Ok im looking for something that's portable (very small..like something you can hold in your hand) air cooler..or air conditioner, whatever it may be called. Battery powered would be my top choice...anyone know of any in mind? (IF you're going to provide links..direct links to one would be grand, not 'something like it' or anything indirect.) I had one from sharper image (worked splended) but i lost it and i don't even remember the name of it...thanks for your time!
can a portable Air-conditioner run on an inverter powered by a car? i have two portable sharp air-conditioners. the specs are as follows 115V, 1000 watt 9.0 amps 50-60hz. I would like to power them using a power inverter (4000watts with a surge of 8000watts) the power inverter will be supplied with current from a Honda 40 or 70 amps alternator. the alternator will be turned by a small two stroke compressed air engine. or a motor. the question is as follows- can the configuration work if the alternator is kept at a constant rpm and supply the the inverter with a steady surge of DC current even if there is enough amps being supplied to the inverter with no battery in the configuration?
Portable air conditioner questions? I have a very small sliding window in an apartment that is 16 1/2 inches wide and 12 inches high. How do I put a portable air conditioner window kit in that?
Cheap Air Conditioner in Sydney city? Hi. Does anyone know where I could buy a cheap, portable smaller air conditioner in Sydney CDB? Thanks
Can anyone recommend a good portable air conditioner that doesn't vent through a window - 12-13,000 BTUs? Have seen Edgestar brand and Boston Innovative Products. Reviews are mixed. Just need it for a relatively small area - 400 sq. ft. or so.
What is the best appliance (fan, etc.) for cooling a small apartment? I would like to know what is the best fan, or portable air conditioner to cool a small un-airconditioned apartment. I want something that doesn't blow hot air, $150 max.
How do you install a portable air conditioner in a horizonal-sliding window? So my two questions are: 1. Portable air conditioners come with an exhaust hose and window-kit. Will this window kit work with both vertical and horizonal-sliding windows? My window is 42.5 inches tall therefore the window-kit would have to go up that high. 2. Which portable air conditioner do you recommend for a small to medium-size bedroom that will work with this window? I have been looking at Royal Sovereign, Amcor, Soleus Air, DeLonghi, SPT, etc... But I have no experience with these. Thanks a lot!
Good cheap portable air conditioner brands? Need an indoor airconditioner for an apartment - only hot for a few months, so something cheap and small - and suggestions?
Where can I find an extra window kit for a portable Haier air conditioner? I have a portable Haier room airconditioner. The window kit is too small for my window (there is a gap of about 6 inches). I have not been able to find an extra window kit anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get one, or have any other suggestions on what I can use?
Cheap portable air conditioner? I am an artist and I turned my garage into a studio. I like having the garage door up because I like to work with natural light. Here's the problem...I live in Houston, Texas. For anyone who lives here or has visited, you know how terribly hot it gets in the summer. Now I have used fans, but they don't work. I know that I can close my garage door, put in lights and put in a window a/c unit, but I would have to cut through the house and that is a last resort. I'm not interested in cooling the entire garage, just the very small area I occupy when I am sitting at my worktable. I just want some sort of contraption that blows cool air at me when I am working. I went on the Walmart website and they had lots of portable air conditioners, but my gosh they were even more expensive than the large ones that go in the window. So does anyone know where I can get one for under $200?
Small, affordable, air conditioner or cooler for small room? I've looked around a bit online but nothing cheap or what I want! Any ideas how to cool my room down? Besides fans...which don't really cool a room down. I really want one of those tower units or anything portable...thanks! akisha..nothing on that website is portable or under 2000 dollars...not really what im looking for but thanks
what is a good portable air conditioner to buy? i am looking for a portable a/c for my bedroom. I have the second room in the house and it gets very hot when summertime comes. plus i only have one window, which of course sucks!!! and there are times I like to have the option to open my window, (which normally i cant when i have a window unit a/c and feeling like i'm trapped in a damn shoe box!!!) on certain days or nights when the weather is not very hot. What I am looking for is a air conditioner to accomodate me and my small bedroom. I appreciate any advice and/or suggestions you can give. thank you!
Need to purchase a portable air conditioner, which cools better.? I Lived in apartments and it get very hot, have small kids. THanks !!!!!
Does a window air condition have to be permanent and what would be the best portable air condition to buy Looking for a portable air condition in the range of $400-500 that would cool a small living room and maybe a kitchen next to the living room. What would be my best bet and also would a window air conditioner be better? Problem is I wouldn't want it to always be in the window. Would it be possible to put it on a table in front of the window?
can a portable air conditioner actually take the place of central air conditioning? My electric bill is straight out of a horror movie whenever I use my central air conditioner. I have been thinking about investing in a portable air conditioner (not a window unit) because they don't use as much electricity. But I'm worried that it won't be enough and my apartment will still be hot. I realize that they are made to cool off just a single room but if its on in one room, would it cool things off enough to make the other rooms at least bearable to be in. My apartment is fairly small. Its a 2 bedroom that is just a little over 900 sq ft.
Circuit Overload? I recently had a large shed constructed in my backyard, in which I installed wiring for four (4) electrical outlets. Unbeknownst to me at the time, the same circuit that feeds those outlets also feeds two outlets in an office area inside my home. Recently, I was running a light from one outlet in the shed, and a small portable air conditioner in another. Those worked fine, until I turned on my computer inside, and then everything blew. I can simply reset the breaker when this happens, but would like to solve the problem instead. Can anyone suggest a remedy? Thanks!
Portable A/C and Portable Evap Cooler at same time? I have a really small cabin that I use a portable air conditioner. It works good until the temps outside rise above 90 degrees. Anything in the 100's, or 110, it can' tkeep up. I live in a VERY dry climate with < 10% humidity. I was thinking of also getting a portable evaporative cooler and running them both at the same time. Do you think there would be any benefit? I would like to add some humidity to the air anyway..
Air conditioning exhaust through static wall vent? Hi, I have an small bedroom I am looking to use a portable air conditioner in, but have no windows. The only possibility for exhaust is a small static wall vent in the wall (about 250mm W x 150mm H or 10' x 6'). Would it be possible to fit the exhaust hose to the wall vent to exhaust the hot air?
PLEASE HELP!! I am interested in getting a portable air conditioner, I have no central air ....? Has anyone ever had one? How loud are they? I am in a small ranch style house, the area I would be air conditioning would be like 1000 Sq ft. WOuld a portable one cool the whole house including the bedrooms, or just the area where we locate it? How many BTU'S do I have to get. Please no one suggest window units, only one bedroom can have one, most of our windows are the ones the open and slide to the sides and a unit can not fit in them they are way too narrow! I checked and a window unit will definetly not fit in our windows at all. This is a rental house and the furnace I think is from like 1960 when the house was built and I don't think it has a fan or at least there is no switch on the thermostat.
small appliances for renters? I need help locating a portable air conditioner that does not require a specialty plug. I can do with the old fashion 3 prone outlet. All the other models I have found require t-shape outlets in order to operate. So does anyone out there know of any portable air conditioners which operates with the old 3 prone outlets and the locations to find it. I am looking for something in the range of 9000 btu and/or higher
Help. I need a small air conditioner? I've been looking for an a/c online but the problem is they're all too big for my window which is 16" w 10" h. Can you guys tell me where i can find one. Online or any store. I dont want a portable a/c because they're too expensive. Thanx in advance.
Non window "personal"/"portable" air conditioner? So, I live in a dorm room that heats up very very quickly, and even now in April is well above 80 degree's at night. Air conditioning is very poor unfortunately, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. My roommate and I were considering buying a personal/portable air conditioning unit just for our (very small) dorm room-However a window unit isn't a possibility. The dorm has specific rules against window units, and it would be spotted very quickly. Are there any suggestions you would make regarding a specific air cooling unit that could cool our room effectively? It wouldn't need to be very large, the room barely fits our single beds in bunk formation+two desks wall to wall. Probably less than 12x12. We're just having a bit of trouble finding anything on amazon or other online sites that doesn't involve some kind of major renovation. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Portable Air Conditioner...? I am looking for a reasonably priced Portable a/c ($50-$200) that works great. I have a small apt. Any suggestions!?
Portable Air conditioner? Best kind? Cheapest? I have a pretty small room and don't want the whole house cooled. I only need my one room to be cooled down, for easier sleeping and such. Is there any recommended brands? The cheapest, but still effective? Where would I get one? P.S. I live in Hawaii, so anyone know the best stores to get one down here? Sears, Walmart, Home Depot?
Where can i find a nice portable air conditioner? I live in houston texas and it gets really hot here sometimes. I have a 150 sq ft room that i need to cool because it has a lot of electronics that make it hotter than the rest of the house. I know im being picky but i don't want one of those ugly white window units since the room faces the front of the house. I was wondering if you guys knew of any good portable A/C units preferably a black or silver one, its a small room so nothing that's overpowered or loud anyway please help summer is near and my computer suffers from all that heat. Something like this http://www.homedepot.com/Appliances-Air-Conditioners-Fans-Dehumidifiers-Air-Conditioners/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xg8Zasfh/R-100632267/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
Using portable a/c only at night? I only want to cool one room and I will only use it at night. But when I went to the store and asked the Sears guy to show me portable air conditioners he said "Dont even bother it doubles your electric bill" and he didn't even show me any. But what if I'm only using the portable A/C in one small room and only at night? Is it still worth it? Any recommended brands? PS a window A/C is not an option.
Portable A/C + Casement Window? I have a casement-style window... I'm planning on purchasing a portable air conditioner and I was wondering if I could simply stick the tube out the window, and have it hanging out the window. I'm not aiming to have it look nice or anything, I just want it work and be able to cool down a small room.
Need a Big Air Conditioner for a Little Window.? Hello, I live in a house that has a big living room and a small window for the A/C. It should be around 24000 BTU's I have a 17 wide 21 inch high window and I can't find a solution. I was going to try a portable air conditioner, but since they prob won't cool the entire space I need another solution. I'm looking for a in window unit or maybe an extension for the in unit to fit in a small window? Thanks.
Can I put an air conditioner in this window? Here is a crummy photograph of the window in question. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/xeomt/window.jpg The area to the right is stationary and does not open at all. The middle section is covered by a screen and is normally closed by sliding the left vertical section in front of it. The maximum width of the open area is just a hair under 11 inches. Is there a window mounted air conditioner that will fit such a small area? (Portable ones are a bit pricey). The room that needs to be cooled is roughly 12x12 as well, so I could live with 5,000 BTU or less even. Thanks! :D
midea air condtioner leaked all over carpet? I just bought a new portable midea air conditioner it was hooked up with the hose to the out side etc near window, the small water hose that was put in a small bucket to contain the water, however to my surprise found the whole half off carpet soaked. Their is no place on the air condtioner to remove a container of water, so whats going on?
Couple questions about venting a portable AC? I'm looking into purchasing a portable air conditioner this summer to cool down my room as it gets very hot with my computer going, and especially if I have my PlayStation 3 on at the same time. One of the reasons I am looking into a portable air conditioner and not a window air conditioner is my window is one of the large side-to-side windows and not one of the small pulldown windows, so covering up such a large portion of the window would look unattractive. But if there is options for that kind of window please do tell. So a portable air conditioner seems to be my best bet. Though I would still have to run the exhaust pipe out the window, I was curious if I could exhaust the heat into my closet or even under my bed (I have a mounted bed with only a small portion of the side that opens up). I really can't take another summer sweating and dehydrating in my own room. What's the most efficient way to get AC in my room? I'm not that experienced on air conditioners. Though I don't know exact dimensions off hand, my room is also quite small. Thanks for any answers.
What size BTU air conditioner will I need? I would like to purchase a portable air conditioner for the following area in my 2 bedroom aprtment. the size of each area is as follows living room is 14ft x 11ft dining rm 11 x 8.5 kitchen 12x 8.5 corridor 9x 3 and a small area which is 4x4. the dining and liv room are open concept, and there is wall between din room and kitchen with open entrance According to my calculations i got 392 square ft. What size BTU will i need? the 2 bedrm already have window a/c.
combining the physics of a portabe swamp cooler and air conditioner (invention)? So I was thinking to myself one day, I have a portable swamp cooler the ones with the aspen pads and water resivour and an air conditioner wall unit. I took my air conditioner apart today to clean it up for the summer time and I looked at how simple it was designed, it has two radiators, one to expel heat, the other to condense cold air. Then I looked at my swamp cooler. I love how cheap they are to run, but man, I really hate how humid the air can get and its a PAIN in the butt to get swamp cooler conditions right. So going back to the air conditioner, I noticed that the fan blows the hot air out from the rear grill and it came to me, why not make a portable air conditioner that doesn't need to vent out hot air? I took the physics of the air conditioner and thought, 'if I could just allow the radiator to be inside water instead of vent out the hot air, I wouldn't need a duct.' then the swamp cooler came to idea, just use the reservoir inside the swamp cooler and rest the radiator inside in order to 'cool' it, get some copper tubing and fit it at the back of the swamp cooler (Removing the aspen pad) to pump the warmer water inside the tubing, to help regulate water and then just slap the smaller radiator for the cooling in front of the copper tubing. With a full reservoir of water (being a good conductor AND insulator) it would, in theory keep the water cool for a few hours of use and keep the room nice and chilly. Engineers, scientists, what do you think? This is the housing of the swamp cooler. http://g-ec2.images-amazon.com/images/I/41YlidHEPhL.jpg
Should i get an air conditioner or an air cooler? For a small bedroom..? Would a 2.6KW Portable Cooler with these specs: 2.6KW of cooling power (9000BTU). Slimline design with remote control. Self evaporative system. 24 hour timer. LCD temperature display. Would it keep a small bedroom cold on a hot summer day? (in australia ... not too hot..really hot summer days are around 40 degrees here i think)
How to cool a room without a air conditioner? i have a room that is about 10x12 and i can put a window or a airconditioner in my room cause theres no place to vent it for a portable ac or any place to put a window ac because i have different windows. i was wondering if an air cooler will work with my heat problem any suggestions or is there anything else that you can buy to cool a small room
Window Air Conditioners- Noise and Cooling Ability? My bedroom is in the upper lever of a three story house. In the summer, the central air conditioning does nothing to cool the room, and it's generally at least 85 degrees during the day. As much as we need it, my parents won't pay to replace the poorly-functioning central unit until it's actually broken and the insurance will help pay for a new one. I'm looking into a window unit to attempt to relieve some of the heat. First, I was wondering about the noise. A lot of people complain about the noise window units make, but I'm wondering what kind of noise it is, like a rattling or just a loud fan. I sleep with a fan on anyway, so I don't have a problem if that's the noise they make, but the rattling might be a problem. And in general, how well do window units work? My room is fairly small, but it's connected to an attic that has no insulation, so the heat is very oppressive. I tried a portable unit, but it hardly does a thing. I don't want to invest in another room air conditioner if it's not going to work any better. Thanks for any help. :)
Hard apt to get air conditioner in? So I live in an apartment that is over top of a horse barn, has steel roof and only 2 windows to the outside world. Place is small and hot. Problem....windows are only crank outs so I can't put in a window A/C nor can I use the portables as they still need a window vent. I can't put holes in walls or anything, so I was looking for suggestions for an A/C system that I could use that was wicked expensive....Thanks
how to cool an attic bedroom? The apartment has a lower level with a kitchen, bathroom and living area and there is a spiral staircase leading to a bedroom, sort of like an attic. The ceiling slants, and there are 2 skylight windows that open and there is also a window in the wall next to the staircase. Would a window or portable air conditioner work well. It is a small room enough to fit a bed and maybe a dresser, with a carpeted floor.Might it need other vents or are the windows adequate? What brands would be good? Would normal opaque blinds block out light sufficiently if installed or is something with a thicker material better? P.S. I would be renting the place, so I cannot make drastic changes, just thinking about how warm the place would be in summer
Are swamp coolers dangerous around electronics (Computers specifically)? Warmer times are approaching in Southern California, so I'm looking for a cost effective solution to keeping my small room cool. Last year, I bought a portable air conditioner to stave off the heat, but the power bills nearly ate me alive. I've heard that swamp coolers can lower the temperature of a room by roughly 15 degrees and used very low amounts of power to do so. My concern is that since these use water to cool, it may be hazardous around computer equipment. Do they spray any sort of fine mist to aid in cooling, or is it strictly water cooled air? Also, would it be helpful to have more than one in a room for extreme heat, or would that be pointless (I wouldn't expect two of them to lower the temperature by 30 degrees - would be nice if physics worked that way though).
can i put a window air conditioner inside? I have a window air conditioner but I am not allowed to have a a/c in my apartment window. I have thought about building a small stand the window height and building a small box around the back of the a/c and having that up against the screen of the window. And for the drain cut a small piece of hose and attach it to the back of the unit and then just have the tip of the other end running out the window. Does anyone think this will work? I have thought about it a lot and cant see why it wouldn't seeing as the unit will be vented outside. Please let me know any and all thoughts i would like to know before all that work. Sounds ghetto I know but I cant afford a portable unit and i already own this one and would like to use it.
How to keep your room Cool? During the Day it gets extremely hot in my room, downstairs is a bit cooler but still hot.I only have two windows in my room,I have a computer that produces heat.Is there a way to keep cool without buying an air conditioner?I turn my computer off sometimes and lights off.Does putting the fan(Portable small fans) http://www.homedepot.ca/wcsstore/HomeDepotCanada/images/catalog/16071.HT-809_4.jpg on my window work so it sucks air from outside to blow it inside? what are your tips for staying cool?

Portable A/C + Casement Window? I have a casement-style window... I'm planning on purchasing a portable air conditioner and I was wondering if I could simply stick the tube out the window, and have it hanging out the window. I'm not aiming to have it look nice or anything, I just want it work and be able to cool down a small room.
