Is there a portable air conditioning unit out there on the market? Please excuse my ignorance, but is there a portable air conditioning unit (blows out COOL AIR in a HOT ROOM) without being attached/fixed to the wall, as in carry it with you just plug it in to a wall socket and have it blow out cool air. I know this may seem like a dumb question, but a simple answer would be much appreciated. Thank you!

How do I vent a portable air conditioning unit without a sliding window? I am thinking about purchasing a portable air conditioning unit but do not have a sliding window. Is it possible to put the hose thing out a velux window (one that swings rather than slides)? this is it here if it helps; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160346353704&ssPageName=h:h:alt:3

Do you know where I could look for a small, cheap, portable air conditioning? I have just moved in to a house in Florida with out central air...smart right. There is a window unit in the living room but my bed room is too hot to sleep in and the windows in the bedroom are weird so I can't put in another window unit. The portable ones that I have looked at so far are too expensive. So, do you know where I can find a cheap one? Or do you have any other solutions?

Question re portable refrigerated (not evaporative) air conditioning? I live in Melbourne. I have a portable evaporative refrigerated air conditioning, but that does not work well. I am thinking of buying a portable refrigerated air conditioning. Can anyone tell me whether the portable refrigerated air conditioning works especially on those extremely hot days? I only intend to put it in a bedroom. Personal experience please - thank you.
Bought Air Cooler - didn't really do the job - Can you get a portable Air Conditioning unit? But one that doesn't have to have a hose stuck out the window - that is selfcontained?
Portable air conditioning units - any hints? We had one in our office last summer, but it seemed to make almost no difference, the hot air just came back in through the window. Has anyone been able to make these things work? Need to know now, so we can start bugging the boss. Thanks for any suggestions. Sorry if it seems a dim question - the unit we had just has a flexible hose that sticks out of the window, so of course, you can't close the window!
portable air conditioning air ventilation? i have just bought a portable air conditioning unit for my bedroom.my question is this,is there any danger of placing the exhaust tube up my chimney breast?it is only the same as using a flu for a gas fire in principle isn't it? the chimney breast is fully functional and was recently sweeped so works fine.i have set it up in this way and it works great because obviously, hot air rises.i just wondered if there was any danger or risk in doing it this way instead of out the window? ie,bad fumes etc

Can a portable air conditioning unit be vented into a loft space? Hi I am wondering if someone can help me with this question re. portable Air conditioning units. What I am talking about here is a small portable unit, the type which sits in your room, but you have a hose ( similar to a tumble dryer hose) which comes out of the back of it. It requires to be vented outside the room ( obviously) and normally I just stick the hose out of our bedroom window. We live in the UK and only really need to have the a/c unit running for 3 or 4 hours at a time, and never more than on 21 days of the year. I was thinking about whether it would be OK to route this hose into our loft space, which would be much more convenient for us. The loft is well ventilated- there are vents which go out under the eaves. I believe all that comes out of this hose is hot, dry air.( the condensed water is collected in the a/c unit). Has anyone had experience of doing this, or can comment on this idea? - I'd be interested in any advice. Thanks in advance
Portable Air-conditioning? Hi, my parents just made a sun room, now their looking for a portable air conditioner because it gets so hot in there. They were looking for something that will chill the air and their looking for one that dosen't have a hose that you have t connect to the outside. Any answers or websites would be helpfull.
Where can i find an attachment for a hose on a portable air conditioning unit? I have a portable air conditioning unit at work and we want to fit the hose into a cut out circle hole in the window so that we don't have to have the ugly attachment through an open window that was included when it was purchased. We have had a company out to assess this, they said it is possible but we need an extra attachment with a cap to fit in the hole in the window and it is proving very difficult to find, please help!!! have a portable air conditioning unit at work and we want to fit the hose into a cut out circle hole in the window so that we don't have to have the ugly attachment through an open window that was included when it was purchased. how can you install a portable air conditioner without a window? We have a bonus room upstairs that has no window. how can we install a portable air condition in this space without a window. Any suggestions are so welcome as my mom stays up there and she is 80 years old. please help
Portable Air Condition, cooler pointing up or down? I have a portable air condition, i have it sitting on a table, I have it on 'swing" (the vents), BUT what would cool my room better, pointing the fan up towards the ceiling, the middle, or down, which would cool it best ?
Portable air condition is making room MORE humid.? So I picked up a portable air conditioner the other day. Its the Sharp CV-NH13 if that matters. The thing is, it's making the room very very humid. The air gets cold in the room, no problem there, but it's got to be 5 times more humid in that room than the unconditioned rooms in the rest of the house. It's not even humid outrside, just in this room. It has a built in dehumidifier but, according to the manual, does not cool if that mode is selected. Any idea why it's doing this?
Central Air Conditioning Or Portable Air Conditioning Units? I have a 4 bedroom home with 3 rooms are used. At any given time there are two people home for a few hours and maybe one person home all day. At night we all are home and one room is empty by 6am everyday. For the most part when we are home we are asleep so its not like there's a lot going on in the house anyway. The central air is running constantly causing a insanity high electric bill. The portable units will be shut off while not at home so they wont be running all day like the central. I was wondering would it be cheaper to have portable ac units in each of the 3 rooms instead of running the central? I've thought about using window units but i dont think its allowed in my neighborhood plus i think it would make the house look kind of tacky.
Does a window air condition have to be permanent and what would be the best portable air condition to buy Looking for a portable air condition in the range of $400-500 that would cool a small living room and maybe a kitchen next to the living room. What would be my best bet and also would a window air conditioner be better? Problem is I wouldn't want it to always be in the window. Would it be possible to put it on a table in front of the window?
Good Portable Air Condition Unit? Can anyone make recommendations for good portable AC units that dont require them to be installed in a well (e.g., truly portable)? My AC in the house is terrible and doesnt get the upstairs cold.
Can you re-gas a portable air con unit? I have a portable Air Conditioning unit that does not pump out cold air any more. The blower works fine and the air is cool but not cold like it used to be. Do you have to re-gas a portable device like you would have to in a car?
Anyone here own portable air conditioning? I just want to know if they are really noisy, I have been looking online and some websites give you decibel levels but I have no idea really what's the difference between 40 or 50 decibels. Are they really noisy? I'm considering getting a small one.. thank you. Don't have to own one, has anyone here been in a room with a portable AC? Was it noisy or OK? My place has central AC, but my room has electronics like receiver, and computer and will have a flat panel tv so it can get warm with all of them one... so the portable AC would not work all alone in cooling Well, I have a lot of electronics plus a lot of lighting so it can get rather warm, and I'm a cold person (meaning I always want it cooler than the average person), that's why I'm thinking of one
Portable air condition question? We have air conditioning in our home but don't need it most of the time. Our only problem is one room we use as an office gets overly hot in the afternoon. Would prefer not to aircondition the whole house just to get this room cool. Would like advice about portable air conditions or evaporative coolers. The room is only 150 square feet, but it does have a 6 foot sliding glass door which lets a lot of sun in.
Portable Air Conditioners - Do they really work? We have a really small apartment (900 sq ft) and it faces south/west (maximum sun exposure). The building does not have air conditioning and the windows are not desigend to support standard window mounted air conditioners. We are nervous to buy a portable air conditioner. I read consumer reports and they gave portable air conditioners very poor ratings. Have you tried them and do they work? If you have had a positive experience, which one would you recommend?
Do portable air conditioners keep the room as cool as the air-con of a car? A car's air conditioning keeps the air cool, unlike a fan which simply blows wind into your face. How cold can a portable ac unit make a room ? are they basically just fans ?
Looking to buy a portable air con conditioning uni, question about how to vent it, ventilate through the wall? Id like to buy an air con uni, for my flat thats unbearably hot, probably just something from argos like this; http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/catalogId/1500001801/partNumber/4250124.htm#tabrev but ive read that they require venting, or something through the wall. How do i do this? how does it work? can it not just be on the window seal? Thanks
can a portable air conditioner actually take the place of central air conditioning? My electric bill is straight out of a horror movie whenever I use my central air conditioner. I have been thinking about investing in a portable air conditioner (not a window unit) because they don't use as much electricity. But I'm worried that it won't be enough and my apartment will still be hot. I realize that they are made to cool off just a single room but if its on in one room, would it cool things off enough to make the other rooms at least bearable to be in. My apartment is fairly small. Its a 2 bedroom that is just a little over 900 sq ft.
Are there any portable air conditioners that do not need to be ventilated through a window? The windows in my home open outward and therefore cannot accomodate any sort of window ventilation unit. I need an air conditioning unit that is fully functioning as a compact unit. Does any such device exist?
Does anyone know where to get a portable air conditioner for around $200? One of those that you can plug into your wall and it will air condition your room but NOT a air cooler.
Can anyone advise me on a good portable air conditioner? I'm renting and don't want to spend too much money, as the next place I rent may have air conditioning. I also heard that you have to put ice cubes in a tray, is that correct? Any help is much appreciated. thanks, M
air conditioner in a car without air conditioning? i have a 2003 ford focus. it is THE BASE MODEL lx. no air conditioning. is there an air conditioner i can buy that doesn't have to be built into the car. i don't want to pay the something like 1500 bucks that it might cost to have it installed since i only paid 500 for the car. putting down the windows doesn't work. i'm half tempted to go out and buy a household portable air conditioner and hook it up in the car.
Air Conditioning Unit (Not Portable) We are thinking of installing an air conditioning unit in our bedroom. The size of our bedroom is 5metres x 6metres. We will be looking for a model which provides the following : 1. Energy efficient model. 2. Quiet operation. 3. Cold and Hot options. Can anyone suggest a model which would fulfill all of our requirements and any pitfalls to avoid.
Swamp Cooler vs. Air Conditioning? Hello. Can someone please give me some information/experiences on Swamp Coolers (evaporative coolers)?? Pros and Cons? I live in San Diego California and it is HOT. It seems like air conditioning is really pricey right now and a portable air conditioning unit runs up the electric bill. Would a swamp cooler be better for us here and do the job? Our home is about 2400 sq ft but we'd only need about 1800 cooled. I remember my Grandparents had a swamp cooler and it worked GREAT. But that's all I can remember about it and they lived in Northern Cal.... And if someone knows a company down here I could call that would be great. I can only seem to find portable swamp cooler providers online and people who do A/C Thank you!
Venting portable air conditioner through hinged window? Thinking of getting a portable air conditioning unit, which uses a hose to expel the hot air through an open window. I see that the fitting kits are all design assuming you have a sliding window, which would allow the window to remain sealed. However, I'm sure it must be a common problem, but how do people deal with a hinged window? The best way I can think of so far is to cut a sheet of perspex to match the size of the open window, then cut an appropriate hole through which to feed the hose. It seems this would be quite tricky in practice, as some way of securing it to the window frame is needed, and I can't really go drilling into the frame as it's a rented property. So I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a clever solution yet, or are there any kits that can be bought? Thanks
How much to rent an air conditioner for a wedding? I need to rent a portable air conditioning unit for a wedding. I will only need it for 2 days.
Air conditioning exhaust through static wall vent? Hi, I have an small bedroom I am looking to use a portable air conditioner in, but have no windows. The only possibility for exhaust is a small static wall vent in the wall (about 250mm W x 150mm H or 10' x 6'). Would it be possible to fit the exhaust hose to the wall vent to exhaust the hot air?
any solutions for staying warm in a cold air conditioned office, we are not allowed to have portable heaters. any solutions for staying warm in a cold air conditioned office, we are not allowed to have portable heaters. I am freezing everyday i wish they could turn the air down. are there any vitamins i can take to heat up the blood flow. thanks
How much does air conditioning raise your electricity bill? How many BTUs do you have? Is Royal Sovereign ok? Hi all, 1. How much does air conditioning raise your electricity bill? 2. How many BTUs is your air conditioner? 3. Do you have a "portable" Royal Sovereign brand air conditioner? Is it any good? (especially since it's not Energy Star compliant?) Thanks, Zeke

Air conditioning question? We just got a new air conditioning its a portable one. The problem is that each time we turn it on its fine the first 10 mins. After than The hole house turns off the power goes off. We need to change the fuses so every thing can work again. Is there something i can do to fix this? I live in a apartment. Here is the info of the air conditioning it helps) http://www.ffemax.com/acp102ps.html?productid=acp102ps&channelid=BIZRA
At what temperature should the air be coming out of a 13000 BTU portable AC? The air is currently coming out between 45 - 50 degrees F. However on my 8000 BTU window unit, the air is coming out at about 40 degrees F. (Measured both with similar weather conditions). Is the air on the portable unit warmer because they aren't as capable as window units? Its hard to believe that an 8000 BTU should out perform a 13000 BTU AC, regardless of design... or am I wrong?
Portable air conditioner? I have central air conditioning in my home, but this particular bedroom seems to have a lot of trouble cooling down. I was looking at portable air conditioners, but I very much dislike that unsightly hose that has to stick out the window, especially in the area I live in. Does anyone know of a cooling system that can comfortably cool a roughly 10x12 room? I am willing to spend up to $500. Thanks for the help.
Is there an AC without an air compressor? Portable AC My dad is a trucker and his truck air conditioning is not working so he needs some type of AC that he will not need to install. The Kooleraire is not efficient and the portable air conditioners have their exhaust pipes that need to be installed through a window which is not really convinient. Is there an AC system that does not require any installation, i.e. without an air compressor? What is the best option to cool the sleeper?
My car air condition is broken what can I do to keep myself cool? My car is black all over inside and out, pleather seats and it gets very hot where I live. I already went without air condition last summer, my hair is a mess from having the windows rolled down, which doesn't help to much cause it feels like a giant heater is blowing on me. And I'm covered in sweat. I can't afford to fix it, what can I do to keep myself cool? Portable air conditioner for a car? Does this exists? A really great fan? Any recommendations?
Do I have to disconnect the portable air conditioners from the window when it rains? Or when not in use? We have always had either central air, the old window air conditioners, or no air conditioning. This is the first time we've had portable air conditioners. So, maybe someone who also has a portable air conditioner, or knows someone with one, could help me with this... We have two actually, one from Sharp, the other from Royal Sovereign, both (especially the Sharp) are a pain to remove (to disconnect the hot air tube from the window) The Sharp has a "bug guard" screen I guess, but because bars on the windows, we couldn't install the Sharp "rain guards" The Royal Sovereign has none of these features. Would bugs getting in the tube or rainwater be a problem? How to fix such problem if occurred? Or should I just keep connecting and disconnecting? (The Sharp connection is just so darn flimsy tho, It feels like if I do this too often it might not last or break) Any suggestions?
Air Conditioning BTU Question? I'm looking into buying a portable air conditioner unit. I'm curious to see as to how much it would cost me to run but I'm a little unsure how to get started. If I'm given the BTU's the air conditioner puts out, how can I use this to calculate a monthly cost for running it?
AIr conditioning. Can anyone recomend a portable type air conditioning unit...? I have a 3rd floor flat and gets real hot in the summer. The room i want to keep cool is approx 90 cubic meters. My girlfriend gets a bad throat with air con, are there different types, and which would be most suitable. Many thanks for your help...
Can you mount an air conditioner and still be able to open the window? Don't want portable-too expensive/messy I want to install a regular window air conditioner in my window. I want to be able to open it on the days when it is not too hot so I can get some addition fresh air in the room. I have only two windows in the bedroom, and when it gets really hot, I need the A/C. Portables don't seem to be the answer and they are expensive for what I need it for - only occasional air conditioning. I saw an a/c once a long time ago with some type of bar that was put in the window that the a/c was attached to and you could open the window, but my super never heard of this. Any ideas? Thanks
PLEASE HELP!! I am interested in getting a portable air conditioner, I have no central air ....? Has anyone ever had one? How loud are they? I am in a small ranch style house, the area I would be air conditioning would be like 1000 Sq ft. WOuld a portable one cool the whole house including the bedrooms, or just the area where we locate it? How many BTU'S do I have to get. Please no one suggest window units, only one bedroom can have one, most of our windows are the ones the open and slide to the sides and a unit can not fit in them they are way too narrow! I checked and a window unit will definetly not fit in our windows at all. This is a rental house and the furnace I think is from like 1960 when the house was built and I don't think it has a fan or at least there is no switch on the thermostat.
Which is cheaper to operate? Central air conditioner or portable air conditioner? I would like to know which one would be less expensive to operate. For example, if I only wanted to cool the living room, should I use a portable air conditioner or the central air conditioner that cools an entire house. The central air conditioning unit (outdoor heat pump unit that has a EER rating of 10 and is built in year 2003) versus a newer portable air conditioner (EER of 9 and consumes 1450 watts of electricity)? Basically, I want to know how much "wattage" a central air unit uses in comparison to a portable room unit. There was no such info on my user manual for the central air pump unit.
portable Air Conditioner unit in arizona.? alright here are the details. i live in a one story house with 4 bed rooms. ( we converted our garage into a game room.) as im sure you know by the title you can already guess air condition in the summer time here costs for the majority of the electric bill. my question however is. would it be cost efficient to purchase a portable air conitioner ( or two. average which cover 300 sq ft. a unit) and hook them up directly to a off the grid solar panel system. wheither it be battery back up running the unit every other day or buying enough solar panels to run the Air Conditioners directly.
Are there any portable airconditioners that are good for apartments? (No hose or draining required.)? We are hoping to find a portable air conditioner. We live on the 3rd floor and cannot put a hose into another room or drain the air conditioner constantly. Our window unit gave out. (It's actually in the wall.) Any help is appreciated. We'd just like a really good way to cool our place. We have one very large room that is very hard to cool. When it's in the 100s, it is hot indoors even with all fans and the air conditioning on. Last week it was 97 and it was awful. We are on the top floor under a tar roof. Thanks.
I need help with air-conditioning? I live in a one-bedroom apartment. It's too hot and I wanted to get a portable air-conditioner but all of them has to have an exhaust and I'm not really allowed to punch holes in these walls. Can I buy one without the exhaust pipes or whatever you those things? I just want a damn cool place for the summer.
Considering purchasing a portable air conditioner? The one I am looking at is a Heir floor model that requires you to run a hose to a window to vent the unit. I have central air conditioning with floor vents, but I am hoping to find a unit where I can cool just the room I am in, instead of the whole house. My question is, could I run the hose into one of the floor registers of my central AC for venting, or would this be creating some kind of chemical build up or anything? My windows are not situated where running the hose to a window would work. Thank you in advance The idea is to run this unit instead of the main AC-I am worried it might create a mold issue though, from the moisture?
Is there a solar-powered portable air-conditioner on the market? I have had an 'Olivetti 200 Solar' pocket calculator for some 15 years now and it is used daily, night and day, without ever having been outside my home. Why can't the technique that produced this calculator be used for mobile air conditioning?
Can I cover a wall heater to keep air conditioning from escaping? In the upstairs room, it is an add on, and there is a wall heater unit. On the other side of that wall is the attic, since it's an add on basically in the attic. There is a portable air conditioner unit up there to try to keep it cool, but it is still so hot and I just discovered that the hot air from the attic is coming in from the wall heater that is there. It looks like it's open to the attic on the other side of the wall, so it is basically acting like a vent. The cold air is not able to circulate and cool the room because the hot air keeps pouring in from there. So I was wondering if I can get something to plug or block the heater, like a lid or something. Anyone famililar with gas heaters?
Air Comditioning Problem....!? I'm cooling a conservatory with a portable air conditioning unit, made by gree! is there any way that i can make it more efficent, cool btter etc!
what is the square footage of a double wide mobil, modular home? looking for a portable air conditioning unit with a ceiling vent kit to install in a double wide home, curious to know how the btu's or tonage of the unit should be measured or calculated in accordance with the residence
Is there anyway to create a windowless air ventilator in an alleyway room of a tenement building? Alright, I live in a tenement building and my room is coincidentally by an alleyway. Since this place is so old, the window here is damaged. I cannot move the top window slide and the bottom is sealed due to a portable air condition setup. And in order to get my privacy, I'd lock my doors - however, this causes me to breathe in unventilated perhaps carbon dioxide rather than the oxygen I need - What can I do in order to receive more clean air in a 100 sq feet room?
Home Air Conditioning? I'm looking to install a few window air conditioners in my home. I'm wondering what I should be looking for when I go out shopping for one. Also, where would be the best place to get one? What brands are good? Do I need an extended warranty? My windows in my home crank/ swing open. How do I install a window unit with this style of window? Should I just get a portable a/c unit? Can I easily remove the window unit if I move?
Window Air Conditioners? I have a warehouse area that needs air condition, but it has not windows. To get central air is too expensive and to get a portable air conditoners is more than I want to spend. Can a window air conditioner be mounted in the room through on of its walls or does it have to have a window to go through. Thanks
